Soundcloud PSA!

Hey Guys! This is the link (below) to my PSA that I have uploaded on soundcloud. The content of this PSA revolves around the Red-Cross and their relief/humanitarian efforts as a non-profit. The purpose of this PSA was to spread awareness but also connect it to my podcast and website topic. The topic that my group chose to use was photography with some tourism/travel mixed in (Ashley G’s wordpress). I was able to successfully connect the PSA to the website topic by giving a brief overview of what the Red-Cross does, and then connecting that to tourism/photography by saying, “So with photography and traveling, the red-cross provide all types of relief, to the places you love to see”. For example New Orleans is a highly photographed and traveled to place because of its interesting culture and nightlife, but with things such as Hurricane Katrina in 2006, the Red-Cross was there to help rebuild, and supply it’s residents after the natural disaster hit, hence ‘providing relief’ to ‘the places you love to see’. This would also relate to my podcast as I plan on it being focused around the volunteers/workers within the Red-Cross in which I plan on showing emotional photos of volunteers and then talking about them in terms of photography and importance.

So this week I uploaded a tutorial video on youtube demonstrating how to re-learn a song on piano. I think it’s really important to point out that this was the method that I find most effective, and by putting it online I hope that I could get some feedback on it and find out if it actually helps people/the ways in which it helps people. So I broke down my video, to initially provide an introduction, and then go right into the process of re-learning. I gave 3 steps for re-learning a song and explained the benefit of each step, then I proceeded to show the sheet music and the notes for the song I was playing as well as having a virtual keyboard (and a piano next to me in real life) which I played to demonstrate the keys I was pressing and the general tempo..etc..etc. Here is the virtual piano I used in my video https://virtualpiano.net/. The intended audience for this video was those who have a basic understanding of piano, and who wish to re-learn a song, although anybody interested in piano could watch. I hope users could find my video by just searching for a tutorial roughly around my topic, or maybe my video will be suggested to people who may find it interesting, but of course thats up to googles algorithm. Throughout Wolf’s writing, one term that seems to have a lot of important within how users find videos is “homophily” (Wolf) which is, “the concept that people favor
those perceived to be similar to themselves” (Wolf). With this I believe that because my video has a very direct but broad target audience, and the Piano being one of the most popular instruments, users will find my videos because they are in a sense, similar to themselves. Everybody has to learn songs to play piano, and with that, re-learning songs is also a must (hence the importance of my video). And while I believe ‘homophily’ also accounts for how users will evaluate my videos, Wolf also shows that the involved content also has a lot to do with how viewers look back on videos. One example was with a person in Wolf’s paper who expressed how much they liked the vocabulary used in the video, that when they heard and saw it in a video, they could now equate it to something in their actual life, this “highlights the role videos can play in expanding vocabularies” (Wolf). Like this I used a lot of Piano-related vocabulary in my video such as the word ‘measures’ or ‘octaves’ while I simultaneously pointed to the ‘measures’ or ‘octaves’ in my video. So I think people can positively evaluate me on the content of my video, whether it’s the explained vocabulary or any other features which they might like. Anyway, if you are interested in watching my video, ill embed a link to it below, so hopefully you can watch and learn something for yourself!
